Howdy, iam Rolando Osmer, Buongiorno.

Whoa, talk about a long wait! It’s finally happened - those long smelt eggs have hatched! After what felt like forever, the little critters are here. I’m sure they’re excited to explore their new world and start their lives. It’s amazing how something so small can take so long to come into being. But hey, better late than never!

How Long Do Smelt Eggs Take To Hatch? [Solved]

Well, it’s pretty simple: In two to three weeks, the eggs hatch and out come these tiny larvae - about a quarter of an inch long - that drift downstream into the lake. At first, they just go with the flow.

  1. Spawning: Long smelt eggs are laid in shallow water, usually near the shoreline, and hatch after a few weeks.

  2. Larvae: After hatching, the larvae drift with the current until they reach deeper waters where they can feed and grow.

  3. Feeding: Long smelt larvae feed on plankton and other small organisms in their environment for several months before reaching adulthood.

  4. Maturation: As long smelt mature, they move to deeper waters where they can spawn again and continue their life cycle.

  5. Migration: Adult long smelt migrate seasonally to different areas of the ocean to find food or spawn in more favorable conditions.

It’s amazing how long smelt eggs can take to hatch - sometimes up to a month! Who’d have thought it? But when they do, it’s worth the wait. Wow!
